Smoking tires tip off CMV inspector to jaw-dropping violation
A newly sworn in Georgia Department of Public Safety officer caught a major safety violation during a recent CMV inspection.
On Monday, March 1, the Georgia Department of Public Safety took to Facebook to provide details on the latest “violation of the week.”
The agency wrote:
Violation of the Week – Newly sworn in Officer Wine and Cadet Phillips (Region 5) observed smoke coming from the rear tandem as this CMV entered the inspection station. They alerted Officer Roberson due to the fact they are not yet certified to inspect CMV’s. Officer Roberson performed an inspection and discovered a severely worn sliding axle locking mechanism had become disengaged somewhere between Montgomery, AL and Lagrange, GA. The sliding axle was completely unattached from the trailer body and only being held in place by the weight of the fully loaded trailer. The dual tires had become locked together causing the smoke. Great catch by our newest Officer and Cadet.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety also shared photos of the violation.
